Biographical / Historical
Hallie Beachem Brooks, a librarian and educator, was born on October 9, 1907 in West Baden, Indiana. She received her Bachelor of Library Sciences degree from Columbia University in 1940 and continued her education at the University of Chicago Graduate Library School, where she earned an M.A. in 1946.
While continuing her education, Brooks became assistant librarian at the Indianapolis Public Library until she was recruited by John Hope, president of Atlanta University to become a librarian of the new library. Brooks would go on to become a faculty member of the Atlanta University School of Library Sciences in 1942 until her retirement in 1977.
Brooks received many honors from both professional and educational organizations. She was elected president of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Atlanta Public Library System.
This collection of vinyl records were willed to the Samuel Woodrow Williams Collection when Brooks died in 1985.
