Historical Sketch
Jessie Thelma Beasley Archer, the daughter-in-law of the late Morehouse College President Samuel Howard Archer, was born May 30, 1903 in Nashville, Tennessee. Mrs. Archer received most of her formal education in the Nashville school system. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee A & I State College in 1934, and did some course work at Atlanta University. Mrs. Archer began her tenure at Morehouse College in 1942 where she was employed as Secretary to the Dean of Men. She later became part of the staff in the Morehouse Personnel and Guidance Office, which eventually became The Dean of Students Officer Mrs. Archer was employed at Morehouse College for over forty (40) years.

The collection spans from 1934 to 1993, with the bulk of the materials dating from 1951 to 1986. It consists of Jessie Thelma Beasley Archer's personal papers and documents her professional life at Morehouse College, her involvement in various social, religious, and professional organizations, including the Q-Ettes, the Professional Secretaries Club, and Professional Women of Atlanta, as well as her engagement with several historically black colleges and universities, including Spelman College, Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Tuskegee Institute, and Tennessee State University. The collection includes college bulletins, newspapers, programs, personal correspondence and financial records, minutes, magazines, newspaper clippings, and business-related books.

Immediate Source of Acquisition note
Items in this collection were donated in 1995 by Mrs. Jessie Thelma Beasley Archer who was married to Morehouse Coach Samuel Howard Archer, Jr., the son of the former Morehouse College President, Samuel Howard Archer.
