Scope and Contents note
The collection consists of correspondence; minutes of meetings; committee reports; programs; financial and legal records of the Dogwood Chapter of The inks, Inc. The bulk of this information is from 1988-1991. Two scrapbooks of activities of the Dogwood Chapter are included. About half of the collection includes material on the National organization and the Southern Area organization. Organizational manuals; National Conference programs and proceedings; the organization's newsletter and journal; invitations' to Link-sponsored events throughout the world; membership directories; copies of the Link song and pledge; and photographs of events are all part of the collection.

Biographical/Historical note
The Links, Inc. is a public service, an international organization of African-American women that was founded by two women in November 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is a volunteer organization that is committed to promoting educational, cultural, and civic activities among its membership. It also seeks to provide opportunities for the enrichment of personal friendships. Each chapter initiates, supports and participates in programs designed to address the needs of their communities in the areas of services to youth, the arts, national trends and services, and international trends and services.
The Dogwood City Chapter, The Links, Inc., Atlanta, Georgia was established in June 1982. The Dogwood City Chapter, The Links, Inc., is one of six Links chapters in the Greater Atlanta area. Their membership comprised of 55 women committed to providing opportunities for high-risk youth and disadvantaged persons who need encouragement, skills, and resources to improve the quality of their lives. The Dogwood City Chapter is part of the national organization, The Links, Inc., which was founded in 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is a volunteer organization that is committed to promoting educational, cultural, and civic activities among its membership. It also seeks to provide opportunities for the enrichment of personal friendships. Each chapter initiates, supports and participates in programs designed to address the needs of their communities in the areas of services to youth, the arts, national trends and services, and international trends and services. Link members are role models, mentors, and activists who adhere to the highest ethical standards of conduct.
The Links’ vision is to increase participation – nationally and internationally – in broader community for a stronger partnership with people of good will and good deeds. The organization have more than 10,000 members worldwide, committed to improving the quality of life for humankind through a sustained focus on: Education- Ensuring for African-Americans and others of African descent a significant increase in the quality of and access to preschool through graduate education, as well as retention of those enrolled and the reclaiming of dropouts. Cultural Enrichment – Fostering greater recognition, appreciation, and preservation of African-American and African culture and heritage. Healthcare – Advocating and promoting improved health and awareness as well as accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare. Civic Involvement – Supporting and strengthening community-based and collaborative initiatives of charitable giving, volunteerism and innovative programs.
Finally, the members of the Dogwood City Chapter, The Links, Inc., are proud of their track record of volunteerism and community support. Raised and contributed over $200,000 to organizations in the Atlanta community.
