Stephanie L. Sheppard photograph collection
Scope and Content Note
The collection contains forty-six (46) color photographs, including forty (40) photographs measuring 12" x 8" and six (6) mounted photographs measuring 9 1/2" x 5 1/2". These images depict peaceful demonstrators supporting efforts to halt proposed legislation that would abrogate Indian treaties with the U.S. government. The event, known as the "Walk for Justice" and sometimes referred to as the "Longest Walk," was led by Dennis Banks in 1994. Participants walked 3,600 miles from Alcatraz Island in San Francisco to Washington, D.C., as documented in the photographs. The purpose of the walk was to raise public awareness of contemporary Native issues.

This collection is available for use only on the second floor (Archives Division) of the Auburn Avenue Research Library. There are no restrictions on research use of the collection, but permission must be obtained for reproductions of materials for which the Research Library does not hold copyright to researcher only for "Fair Use" as defined in the copyright law (Title 17, United States Code). Also permission must be obtained to publish reproductions from materials for which the Research Library does hold copyright for one time use only.
