Biographical/Historical note

The 100% Wrong Club began in 1934 in the sports department of the Atlanta Daily World. The club started as the creation of two sports writers from the paper, Eric (Ric) Roberts (1905-1985) and Lucius L. Jones (1910?-1952). Originally, the purpose of the club was for members to predict the outcome of collegiate games and to recognize outstanding athletes during that period. Today the 100% Wrong Club maintains its mission by continuing to recognize and award college and high school athletes as well as local community leaders and pioneers in the field of sports. The club selects outstanding student athletes and other persons to attend its annual "Sports Jamboree" weekend. The weekend is typically held at the end of January, after the college bowl games. It includes a kick-off reception, a high school awards breakfast, mentoring session, press reception and an awards banquet. The 100% Wrong Club recognizes and awards teams and individuals with awards. The awards include: The Ralph Robinson Coach of the Year Award -- named in the memory of the late Ralph Robinson, coach in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC); The W.A. Scott Memorial Trophy -- symbolic of the National Football Championship and named in tribute to the late W.A. Scott, II, founder and publisher of the Atlanta Daily World; and the A.S. “Jake” Gaither Award, added in 1979 and given as symbol of the Club's continued growth.
